It’s a classic massage originally from Europe, that uses long strokes and kneeding to the superficial layers of muscles. It is a soothing massage that helps to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improves flexibility and promotes health and relaxation.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stones warmed by fire were used by Native Americans to treat
aching muscles. The therapist places smooth, heated stones on key points of the body. The therapist may also use the stones as extension of their hands. The heat relaxes and warms up tight muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils derived from plants to affect your mood and alleviate pain. Essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil, based on what you need, the therapist uses up to five oils in a mixture. A relaxing aromatherapy massage for instance might include lavender or bergamot, while a massage for sore muscles might include peppermint and eucalyptus. Aromatherapy should not be confused with fragrances or perfume oils. Fragrances are often made from chemicals and lack therapeutic properties. Whereas essential oils are volatile and highly concentrated plant extracts, derived from leaves, bark, roots, seeds resins and flowers.
Indian Head Massage
Also known by the portmanteau “champissage” (champi- massage), it is based on the ancient Ayuverdic form of healing that dates back almost 4000 years. The therapist will strive to restore harmony by working on the upper three Chakras: Vishuddha (the base of the throat), Ajna (the forehead) and Sahasrara (the crown). There are several acupuncture points on the head, the massage is felt throughout the entire body. Indian head massage may be dry or oils may be used.
It’s the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas of the feet, hands and ears without the use of oils or lotion. Based on the notion that there are reflexes on the feet, hands and ears that corresponds to every part, gland and organ of the body. The application of pressure therefore relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body.
